The NFL Goes MrBeast Mode
WIRED went to Brazil for YouTube's first live NFL broadcast. It was helmed by the platform's biggest influencers as the league expands its quest for global domination. Kay Adams, Deestroying, haleyybaylee, and Cam Newton at YouTube's first live NFL broadcast. The first international game of the National Football League season, a Friday-night tilt between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers in Sรฃo Paulo, is celebrated on the ground by the usual pomp and circumstance. There are photo booths and merch tents catering to local fans, samba dancers in feathered head-pieces entertaining American die-hards traveling across the equator, and a press conference where Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has to backtrack after calling association football (that is, the kind that is still most popular in Brazil, and the rest of the word) "soccer."
The Morning After: Meta lays off an additional 10,000 workers
Meta has announced another expansive round of layoffs to cut costs. CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company is letting go of another 10,000 workers and closing "around 5,000 additional open roles that we haven't yet hired." This follows layoffs of around 11,000 employees last year. The company is reducing the size of its recruiting team and will inform affected employees later today. It'll then announce layoff and restructuring efforts of its tech departments in late April and business teams in late May.
Walmart Onn Streaming Stick and Device reviews: Surprisingly great budget streamers
If you're wondering which company makes the best streaming players for the least amount of money, you might not expect the answer to be Walmart. Walmart's $25 Onn FHD Streaming Stick and $30 UHD Streaming Device both undercut the cheapest comparable Roku and Fire TV streamers, yet the hardware doesn't seem compromised despite the low price. Meanwhile, Google's Android TV software provides a slick streaming menu, powerful voice search, and the ability to cast video from your phone. They don't support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, or HDR10, and I had trouble getting TV volume and power controls to work on the cheaper FHD Streaming Stick. But if that doesn't happen to you, and your streaming needs aren't overly demanding, Walmart's devices are surprisingly hard to beat.
Google's $99 bedside display is great--even if it thinks my dog snores too much
While Google's optional Sleep Sensing feature is the headline here, there's a lot to love about this display from a performance standpoint. Google Assistant is quick to respond and execute commands--this being a Google product, there's no support for Amazon Alexa or Apple's Siri--bolstered by accurate response to gesture commands. The Hub's machine learning chip (the same chip you'll find in the Nest Mini and Nest Audio), offers 1.2 TeraOPS of processing power to help Google learn your most common commands and respond to them faster than ever before. The Nest Hub (second-gen) can help track your sleep, manage your Google-enabled smart home, and more. The 7-inch touchscreen display houses three far-field microphones to process voice commands.
Black Friday starts early: Prepare to refresh your computer a lot
The good news: You won't have to camp out in front of Best Buy for that big screen TV "doorbuster" deal. The bad: So many will, indeed, be gathered at the same time, but you'll all be online for the Black Friday super sales. Who has the quickest trigger finger? Black Friday sales start earlier this year, as soon as Sunday, if you're not counting the Black Friday-adjacent sales that have already been out there. The "doorbusters" of years past are now online specials, starting at staggered times.
Chromecast with Google TV review: What a difference a remote makes
The original Chromecast that debuted in 2013 was a simple $35 dongle. But it was still notable, providing a cheap way to make any TV "smart." Things have changed a lot since then, however. Not only do a lot of TVs now come with built-in apps, Roku and Amazon developed their own streaming sticks over the years -- both of which have remote controls and visual menus for easy navigation. Google's Chromecast soon seemed outdated by comparison.
Google and Amazon make up โ YouTube coming to Fire TV
Amazon Fire TV Stick & nbsp; & nbsp; & bull; Price: $24.99 & nbsp; & nbsp; & bull; Savings: $15.00 & nbsp; & nbsp; & bull; Percent off: 37.5% & nbsp; & nbsp; ALSO READ: 40 Places Young People Are Moving (Photo: Courtesy of Target) Google and Amazon, longtime corporate adversaries who have been feuding for years, have made up. Consumers who have complained about not being able to watch YouTube or the cutting-the-cord YouTube TV service via Amazon's popular Fire TV Stick streaming products and the Amazon branded Fire TV Edition TV sets will finally get to do so later this year. Additionally, Google is bringing Amazon's Prime Video service to the Android TV platform and the Google Chromecast streaming device. Still, the companies have a ways to go. You still won't be able to see YouTube on Amazon's Echo Show, the video version of the Alexa speaker, nor will Amazon be opening up the doors to sell products like the Google Home speaker (Alexa's main rival) or the Pixel phone, in its eStore.

Chromecast (2018) review: Google's revamped media streamer is what you make of it
There are two ways to think about Google's Chromecast streaming dongle in 2018. You could consider it as your only streaming device, committing to Google's vision of using a phone or tablet as your only TV remote. This unconventional approach has its upsides, but it's less appealing than it used to be as low-cost streamers from Roku and Amazon have become faster and more versatile. Alternatively, you might view Chromecast as a secondary streamer, living alongside the Roku, Fire TV, or Apple TV that you already own. You won't have to give up a proper remote control, but can still use Chromecast to launch videos from your phone, screen-share from an Android phone or laptop, view Google Photos on the big screen, and control your TV with Google Assistant voice commands.
